Our Facilities

Associated Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired is located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, at 919 Walnut Street.

The address is home to our offices as well as the many programs and services that we offer. Most of our classes and groups meet at 919 Walnut, and it’s also where you’ll find our large-scale braille production department…one of only five such facilities in the United States.

It’s also here that rehabilitation, training and education reshapes and rebuilds the lives of our clients.

We have a working apartment, where clients can learn to adapt to blindness or visual impairment without fear. Instructors teach clients how to cook, clean, sew, write letters and checks; how to dress and apply make up; how to effectively use a white cane and much more.

alt   Our Computer Technology Department features computers with special adaptive aids that provide people who are blind or visually impaired the opportunity to learn computer literacy, including how to input type and navigate what's on a computer screen even though they don't have the ability to actually see it. They can also learn how to surf the net, write emails or handle software including word-processors and spreadsheets.

The first floor of our facility also houses the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, a lending institution of braille and audio materials circulated to eligible borrowers in the United States by postage free mail.

At any given time of day, 919 Walnut Street is bustling place where people come to share, learn, teach, volunteer, read, chat and just be themselves.
