Helping People Cope, Adapt, Live


Adapting to life with little or no vision can be a daunting challenge. Fear and uncertainty can be overwhelming. Even a lifelong home can suddenly become foreign and perilous. In blindness or visual impairment, much of what a sighted person takes for granted needs to be relearned in a completely new way.

We understand the disability...but we're also confident in the ability each of our clients has to tackle fear and go on living.

Our Human Services Department is the place to start. Our dedicated and caring staff has a proven track record. Most know the experience first hand, and have the training and patience to help others move forward.

  • Independence in mobility by learning to use a White Cane
  • Independence in the home through kitchen and maintenance skills

WHO QUALIFIES…

To those who qualify, our services are offered free of charge. For those who do not qualify, fees are on an affordable sliding scale. To find out if you or someone you know qualifies for services without charge, have the following information on hand when you call us:
  • Proof of Income: To participate in ASB’s programs without charge, income must be 300% or less of the Federal Poverty Level for a single person. Click here to find current levels.
  • Eye Report: Have medical documentation from a doctor stating legal blindness or visually impairment.

We’ve made the process fast and easy, and we’ll even help you fill in state-required documentation.

Based on approval, we create a service plan including groups, educational classes and recreational programs tailored to an individual’s specific needs.
